K9 Handler Needs Our Help ASAP!
SFC Weary, Carlisle Barracks K9 As some of you may have heard, one of our own has been recently been diagnosed with cancer. Howie Weary, SFC, Carlisle Barracks PD, went in for his routine yearly physical when his doctors found swollen lymph nodes. After a series of tests, Howie was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. This is a very rapid spreading cancer; if left untreated, it can be fatal with in weeks or even months. Howie is currently in Hershey Medical undergoing treatment, which involves replacing all of his blood & bone marrow.
We here at Castle's K-9 ask if any of you can take time out of your busy schedules to donate blood in the name of Harold J. Weary, Jr. His blood type is O positive, but of course, anyone who donates is always helping someone who's in need. You may find blood drives at www.redcrossblood.org. If you're also interested in bone marrow donation, you can go to www.marrow.org - the Be the Match bone marrow registry. After registrations, you will be sent a mouth swab kit to send back in, then put on a wait list to donate.
I'm sure I'm missing some of you, so please feel free to forward this on to spread the word. Howie is in room 3241, phone number 717-531-6345. He starts Chemotherapy 17 Jan 2012, sometime in the morning.
