Virginia Police Work Dog Association %% After six long years, we have finally made our goal a reality. On Friday, October 16, 2009 at 2pm, the Virginia Law Enforcement K-9 Memorial will be dedicated and unveiled at Virginia Tech in front of the Vet School. Please come join us to remember the Virginia dogs who made the ultimate sacrifice protecting their handlers and the public. The Virginia Attorney General will be the keynote speaker. To coincide with this event, the VPWDA will host it's annual Iron Dog Challenge on Saturday, October 17, 2009. Go to www.vpwda.com for more details. We hope you can attend both events. %% K-9 Memorial Dedication %% The weekend will start with the dedication of a memorial for police K-9?s killed in the line of duty in Virginia. This has long been a dream of or local Master Trainer, John Hoover though hard work and many dedicated committee members from around the state, John?s vision is about to be complete. Renowned Artist Larry Bechtel agreed to do the sculpture and with many trips to our training group and many meetings with our K-9 Model the memorial is coming to life. %% Dedication of the memorial will be on Friday October 16th 2009. All officers are requested to come in uniform and bring their dogs. %% Iron Dog Competition Following the Dedication of the memorial we will all go to Camp Powhatan for a walk through of the course and a Barbeque. This is a Boy Scout camp and is the largest of its kind on the East Coat! Lodging is available at the camp but it is primitive cabins and please come prepared. In other words, bring a sleeping bag!! As you may or not be aware, Southwest Virginia in October may be hot as Hades, or cold as ice. So, please watch the weather channel so you will know how to prepare. You will find the beauty of this particular spot breath taking and you should not miss the camping experience. There are also places to pitch a tent if you would like. The first 30 registrants and 1 guest are guaranteed free lodging in the primitive cabins. Please detach the registration form and send any checks to the address listed at the bottom. All checks should be made out to Virginia Police Work Dog Association (VPWDA). %% Please come and join us for this fun filled, and action packed weekend. I promise you will not regret your attendance. %% Registration includes a participation t-shirt (extras will be available while supplies last), the cookout on Friday and possibly a breakfast on Saturday Morning. It is our desire to make this the best Iron Dog as of yet. %% Any handler that has a dog that will be posted on the wall will run in this competition for free. And if you know a Virginia Dog that was killed in the line of duty, please contact John Hoover at thugbusteraxl@aol.com to ensure that the dogs name goes on the wall. %% This is a fun filled weekend set in the beautiful mountains of South West Virginia. You will wake up in one of the most pristine locations in the State of Virginia. Your sleep will be un interrupted and the air will be clear. There are places for tents and cabins are available all for free for first come first serve. %% I believe that all participants and guest will go away from this location rested and relaxed. This is a fun family oriented day and a challenge to you and your dog. Are you up to it? Full Weekend of K-9 Activities
