All levels of experienced K-9 teams are welcomed as training and classes are geared to the experience level of the individual teams. Training:
We are looking forward to showing everyone the training areas and new training opportunities this year. These opportunities include rappelling with your partner, large bulk narcotics (and possibly explosives), night training, simulations training in a shoot house, search areas in hard concrete rubble, search areas in soft wood and other rubble material, a collapsed building, and other exciting venues. The majority of the training will be in one location with all other sites within an eight-mile radius. The distance from narcotics training site to the training site for the patrol training is less than 2 miles. We are providing extra training for bloodhound handlers and the handlers for Search and Rescue will have more advance training sites. If you would like to see one of the training sites please log onto the Northeastern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy web site, Northeastern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy and see the training facility. If you are a Bloodhound handler, Explosive, Arson (Accelerant), Cadaver or Search and Rescue handler please register by May 1st or at least contact us and tell us of your intent of attending this workshop. This will give us enough time to secure training aides additional trainers for these training venues. You may still attend after this date – just please let us know ASAP.
NOTE:
Depending on the number of Explosive Detection K9 Teams attending, ATF may participate by offering the National Odor Recognition Test (NORT). Any Explosive Detection K9 Team interested in taking the National Odor Recognition Test (NORT) should call Rich Olson at (630) 309-1782 with their intent of attending the workshop prior to May 1, 2009.
Additional information pertaining to ATF’s National Odor Recognition Test, along with other classes offered, may be obtained by visiting the NAPWDA web site, click on this link to go directly to that page: ATF Explosive Detection Training & Partnership w/ NAPWDA.
