Mike started his LE career as a cadet with the Ferndale Police Department in 1976. He was hired as a Patrol Officer in September of 1978. In 1984, he was selected to start a K-9 program for the Department. From there, Mike went forward having three K-9’s over 21 years, retiring from the department in April of 2005.

Mike became a member of NAPWDA in 1984 and served as State Coordinator for the State of Michigan. He achieved NAPWDA Trainer status in 1997, and NAPWDA Master Trainer status in 2000. Mike is also a NAPWDA lifetime member.

Mike was nominated and elected NAPWDA Membership Chairman in 2001 and has been re-elected to this position for five terms.

Mike is married to Michelle. Together they have two daughters and two granddaughters.
