K9 Cas

End of Watch: July 10, 2019

July 10, police say 31-year old Clarence Shearer of Fort Wayne pulled off an armed carjacking in Plymouth Indiana, then led police on a high speed chase through Kosciusko County and into Whitley County.

Sheriff’s Deputy Gary Archbold parked in a cross-over along U.S. 30 and set up spike strips to stop the car.

Instead, Shearer–for an unknown reason–veered off the road and slammed into Archbold’s cruiser at high speed, touching off a fire that killed K9 “Cas”.

Sgt. Bob Theurer has worked in Fort Wayne PD’s K9 unit for more than 20 years and trained Deputy Archbold and his dog.

“Losing your partner just due to age or illness is bad enough, but to have them die in a manner like Cas did is unbelieveable, I just can’t imagine it,” said Sgt. Theurer
